Ambition-The Dark Side

We’re at a point where we have gone as far as putting a value on a person. On a casual note, we use phrases like “Bill Gates is worth 56 billion dollars!” or “A college graduate with a bachelor’s degree is worth 51,000 dollars a year, minimum.” The creative man has been to the moon and back, yet our creation of the dollar is what governs and defines our virtue.
Many would argue that it is ambitious to chase the dollar; that it’s the search for satisfaction that leads us as individuals to strive for success. And rightly so, it is a fun chase. It gives us a goal to achieve. And life doesn’t just stop at that goal, we move to bigger and better things.
Adolf Hitler, the chancellor of Germany at the time of World War II, was a mighty ambitious man, he had dreamt of taking over all of Europe. And it is well known that in pursuit of his ambition, Hitler killed many innocents, put the whole world to war, and above all, didn’t even achieve his goal. Now, not all ambitions are as radical as Hitler’s had been, but this devastating history of our world proves to be a lesson.
We may not realize it, but in pursuit of our goals, we’ve crippled many innocents. We allow something as unstable as money-flow to destabilize our relationships. What is the purpose of the ambition that has been achieved over tears and years of suffering?
